ACCESS: MOLECULAR TYPE DATABASE
The Campynet project aims to provide standard protocols for key molecular typing methods; and a database of standard genotype profiles of approximately 100 strains collected across Europe. We hope to enable electronic access via this Website to this database to facilitate epidemiological studies of Campylobacter infection within and between EU countries.
At present this facility is not available. We have not yet completed the standardisation of methods!
To compensate, here are some typical examples of the key typing methods included in Campynet.
FLAGELLIN GENE TYPING (FLA-RFLP TYPING)
Flagellin RFLP profiles of some Penner serotype reference strains. Bands are resolved in the size range 100-1000 bp.PFGE-DNA TYPING
SmaI-derived PFGE profiles of European and American C. jejuni strains. In this picture, three "profile groups" can be seen. DNA fragments are resolved in an approximate size range of 50-500 kb.
A prototype standard method for PFGE typing of campylobacters is now available. Click here to access the document.
AFLP TYPING
BglII-Csp6-A based AFLP patterns of type, reference and field strains of C. coli. Red bands are internal molecular weight standards (500-50 bp): blue bands represent bacterial AFLP fragments.
